There are three distinct tests for ordering fecal occult blood:
FOB, Diagnostic (CPT 82272) -- This test is ordered for single specimen collections in patients with signs or symptoms (from digital rectal exam) -- do not order this test for consecutive daily test orders. Method -- peroxidase activity (guiac), qualitative.
FOB (CPT 82270) -- Consecutive collected specimens, with single determination for colorectal neoplasm screening (patient was provided three cards or single triple card for consecutive collection). The patient should not have signs, symptoms or complaints associated with GI blood loss. Method -- peroxidase activity (guiac), qualitative.
FOB, Screening (HCPCS G0107) -- Colorectal cancer screening for Medicare patients. This test is ordered to screen patients for colorectal cancer in the absence of signs, symptoms, conditions or complaints associated with GI blood loss. Method -- peroxidase activity (guiac), qualitative.
